Good evening, and thank you for attending our annual State of the City event. I am honored by your presence here tonight, and hope that this report provides a good basis for our working together in the coming year.

I want to start with a word of thanks to Jet Propulsion Laboratory, which provided such an interesting and valuable presentation this evening regarding the Mars rover, Curiosity. The success of this project has inspired the world and has made Pasadena once again the center of attention. We all stand proud of JPL’s success.
